ANIMA 20th Anniversary Program (2026)

2026 marks a historic milestone for ANIMA: the network’s 20th anniversary. Rather than a look back at the past, this year is a forward-looking act of commitment — transforming two decades of achievements into the foundation for the next decade. The central ambition is to co-design the Europe–Middle East–Africa 2036 vision and build concrete roadmaps for sustainable, shared development across the region.

The anniversary will unfold through four flagship strategic events: an economic symposium in Athens (April), an investment summit in Nicosia (June), an innovation and clusters forum at a location to be confirmed (November), and a grand closing forum in Rabat (December). Each event brings together decision-makers, investors, clusters, and institutions from across the Europe–MENA–Africa corridor around themes including value chain security, technological sovereignty, critical transitions, and diaspora engagement.

Throughout the year, a dedicated communications campaign will give all network members a platform to share their vision and successes — a reflection of ANIMA’s core belief that the network lives through its people.

Project’s objectives

Two decades after its founding, ANIMA stands as a testament to what patient, principled international cooperation can build — and a springboard for what comes next.

ANTICIPATE & MAP THE FUTURE

Analyse prospective trends, anticipate disruptions, and co-build common roadmaps for sustainable economic cooperation and synergies between Europe, MENA and Africa — identifying growth sectors and strategic areas for shared development.

UNITE & MOBILISE STAKEHOLDERS

Create a high-level platform for dialogue between policymakers, economic leaders, investors and innovators — remobilising the international cooperation community around private sector challenges and celebrating successful cooperation initiatives and good practices.

PROMOTE OPPORTUNITIES & SOLUTIONS

Enable countries and companies to showcase their opportunities, offers and innovations in strategic domains — Green transition, Defence, ICT and Financial services — while sharing best practices in investment promotion, public-private partnerships, and green & digital regulation.

STRENGHTEN VALUE CHAINS & DESIGN FUTURE COOPERTATION

Organise business matchmaking between industries, clusters and research centres, promote successful industrial upscaling and clustering dynamics, and identify the means, partnerships and resources needed to pursue joint industrial development and shared Euromed value chains — particularly in green and digital sectors.

Activities

MEDITERRANEAN 2036: FUTURE-PROOFING ECONOMIC PROSPERITY

ANIMA 20th Anniversary International Symposium & Euromed Clusters Forward – Cluster Academy

Taking place in Athens, Greece from April 22 to 24, 2026, and co-organized with Enterprise Greece, this three-day international symposium brings together policymakers, investors, cluster leaders, and economic development experts at a defining moment for the region. As global value chains shift, climate urgency accelerates, and Southern Mediterranean economies show remarkable resilience, the time has come to define a new roadmap together. The symposium will work toward co-building the “Athens Action Plan” — a set of 6 to 10 concrete cooperation proposals designed to drive regional prosperity through 2036.

As a continuation of the Mediterranean Leaders initiative, launched in Marseille and followed by its second edition in Tunis, the third edition of Mediterranean Leaders will also take place as part of the symposium.

INVESTMENT SUMMIT

Connecting regions, stimulating growth: Europe-MENA investment partnerships

Taking place in Nicosia, Cyprus from June 15 to 17, 2026, and co-organized with Invest Cyprus, this summit will be held under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council, serving as a catalyst for collaboration between Europe, MENA and Africa investment players. Bringing together industries, clusters and research centres, the event will focus on activating value chains through intensive business matchmaking sessions, while offering investors a prime opportunity to connect and explore new partnerships. The summit will also host the ANIMA General Assembly Meeting.

CAPITALIZATION CONFERENCE

Boosting industrial and innovation ecosystems: Euromed experiences and way forward

Provisionally taking place in Morocco in November 2026, this event will mark a key milestone by highlighting five years of industrial cooperation dynamics built through the Euromed Clusters Forward project. Drawing on the recommendations developed at the Athens Symposium, it will serve as a forward-looking moment to design the next generation of cooperation initiatives focused on innovation. The central objective: capitalise on collective successes to shape tomorrow’s partnerships and drive the region’s industrial future.
