October 7th and 8th, 2023 marked the debut of Création Africa, the very first Forum for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI). This event, held at the Gaîté Lyrique, was a significant milestone in the realm of artistic creation. Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Création Africa shone a spotlight on rapidly growing fields such as TV series, animation, immersive experiences (video games, metaverse, and XR), and publishing, including comic books.

The participation of Sarah Hassnaoui, project leader of ANIMA, in Création Africa holds paramount importance for REA BRIDGE Africa. The event spanned three days, commencing with a day dedicated to professionals, followed by two days accessible to the general public. While the program was designed to welcome a diverse array of participants, it provided a wealth of information and opportunities tailored specifically to industry experts.

Création Africa: Illuminating Creativity

Création Africa was celebrated as a grand-scale event, attracting prestigious guests from diverse backgrounds. Highlights included B2B meetings, thematic conferences, inspiring podcasts, film screenings, art exhibitions, and opening and closing ceremonies. It is worth noting the significant presence of studios that had contributed to the success of Kizazi Moto, despite their Anglophone orientation and strong ties to Los Angeles, thanks to their partnership with Disney.

Distinguished Figures and Institutional Support

The event was also marked by the participation of numerous VIP figures, highlighting the state’s commitment to supporting these creative sectors. The presentation of the prestigious AFD Digital Challenge award in the presence of the Ministers of Culture and Foreign Affairs, along with an evening with the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, underscored the significance attributed to these creative domains.

Strengthened Network and Future Prospects

What was particularly remarkable was the serendipitous encounters with many beneficiaries of REA hailing from Ghana and Senegal, as well as REA mentors, such as Teddy Kossoko and Pierrick Chabi, who became cherished figures among participants. This convergence of talents also brought together diplomats, entrepreneurs, and other notable individuals, strengthening REA’s network.

The impact of this participation extends beyond the event itself. The repercussions will be felt at future events, including those in Montpellier and MIPCOM, as well as at the soft landings next week. Création Africa was a pivotal step in the development of the creative industry in Africa, bolstering REA-BRIDGE Africa‘s position as a major player in this ever-evolving landscape. The success of this event opens exciting new prospects for the future of the creative industry on the African continent.
