ANIMA Webinar – Placing women at the centre of economic development in Africa
14 April 2022
Online
ANIMA is organising a new webinar in the framework of the REA-Bridge Africa project on the place of women in economic development projects on 14 April 2022 at 9am.
Africa is a world leader in women’s entrepreneurship. It is ahead of the rest of the world in terms of the number of women entrepreneurs. In fact, women are more likely to become entrepreneurs than men on the continent: they represent 58% of those who are self-employed in Africa. However, women entrepreneurs still face some challenges: in terms of finance – with a majority of family and traditional finance and difficulties in accessing other forms of finance; in terms of turnover – the recent World Bank report, “The Benefits of Gender”, shows that in sub-Saharan Africa, women entrepreneurs still make 34% less profit on average than men; or in operational terms, with few platforms and capacity building for these economic actors.
However, the economic potential of women’s entrepreneurship has been identified by a growing number of initiatives and sees in African women an interest in investing, whether through public policies and development programmes or private initiatives and investment funds.
This potential and how to unleash it will be the subject of the webinar on 14 April 2022 at 9am [GMT+0] (check your time zone) with our guest speakers:
- Sindi Mzamo, CGBW (South Africa)
- Sougrynoma Zaïnatou Soré, IITA -OneCGIAR (Nigeria)
- Jean Claude Ngendandumwen CCOAIB (Rwanda)
