ANIMA Webinar – National strategies for identifying and mobilising African diaspora entrepreneurs
12 May 2022
En ligne
ANIMA is organising a webinar in the framework of the MEET Africa project on national strategies for identifying and mobilising African diaspora entrepreneurs on 12 May 2022 at 9am [GMT+0].
Who is involved?
Entrepreneurs from the diaspora or with links to Africa who wish to develop their activities on the continent, in order to know the strategies put in place in different countries to support them.
Public or private support structures for entrepreneurs in Africa, who wish to know the strategies put in place by their peers in neighbouring countries.
What is the content of this webinar?
The webinar will give the floor to African actors working to mobilise and support diaspora entrepreneurs in their countries.
It will also allow an exchange between these actors and the participants: entrepreneurs and support structures.
Which diaspora entrepreneurs are targeted by strategies from Africa? What strategies and services are in place to mobilise investment and skills through the support of the African diaspora, and to capture the interest of high-level expatriate talent for opportunities in their home countries? How to access these services?
These are the questions that our experts will try to answer during this webinar
What’s the context?
Widespread recognition of the role diasporas play in economic development and positive change has resulted in a proliferation of policies and programmes to mobilise the interest and resources of emigrants and their descendants.
In West and Central Africa, about half of the countries have developed or initiated the development of national diaspora engagement strategies aimed at placing migrants (and their descendants) at the heart of their economic and human development. According to the ICMPD, 80% of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in China comes from the Chinese diaspora; Indian diasporas in the United States have been instrumental in building the IT sector in India, creating a second “Silicon Valley” in their country, to name but a few well-known success stories. The same is true for the African diaspora.
This webinar is organised in the framework of the MEET Africa 2 programme implemented by Expertise France, financed by the European Union and AFD – Agence Française de Développement
