ANIMA Webinar – Entrepreneurship as a driver of growth and social transformation in Africa

9 December 2021

Online

ANIMA is organising the very first meeting of a series of webinars in the framework of the REA-Bridge Africa project. This first webinar, which will take place on 9 December 2021 at 9am, will be dedicated to : “Entrepreneurship as a driver of growth and social transformation in Africa“.

Africa is growing at around 5%, compared to 3.5% for the rest of the world, according to the IMF, and has many economic advantages – being the richest in raw materials (oil, minerals, agricultural products) and home to the youngest population. However, the continent is also undergoing rapid change and faces new challenges; while one billion people currently live on the continent, that is 1 in 7, by 2050 it will be 1 in 5; climate change will have a major impact on the region; the opening up of financial markets on the continent and the improvement of internet access through submarine cables are all changes that will impact on Africa’s place in the world.

In this context, entrepreneurship can play a major role in African growth and social transformation. While many barriers to entrepreneurship remain – lack of institutions and legal frameworks for entrepreneurship, rigidities in the economic and political landscapes, barriers to trade and difficulties in moving between African countries – many solutions are developing – the establishment of “Start-ups Acts” (Tunisia, South Africa), the multiplication and professionalisation of intermediaries likely to support African entrepreneurs (incubators, accelerators, business angels, investment funds), the return of the diaspora and the building of bridges between global ecosystems,…

All this will be discussed during the webinar of December 9, 2021 at 9am, with speakers such as: Bourry Ndao – Conseil Présidentiel pour l’Afrique (France), Hélène Guehennec of MAHNA (Burkina Faso) and David Cheboryot of E4impact (Kenya)
